Canuk Funding of LENR R&D?

Stand alone emails to officials usually have little impact. And, even pyrimidal efforts are unlikely to overcome inertia in high places. However, the timely intervention of November 23rd may well have helped deliver a desired result. An advocacy/educational blog post highlighting the relevant emails helps with public understanding and perhaps stimulates some research funding.

Before going to the email stream, let's look at an item on a very informative forum, E-Cat World, and an excerpt by commentator, Sanjeev:
Not every one of us 7 billion need to be convinced to start the growth of Cold Fusion. It does not work that way. Mostly it takes only few pioneers and capable people to create a revolutionary product. The fools refuse and deny, as usual, but a handful of smart ones grab the opportunity. When they finally start producing useful things, others try to mimic their success and so it spreads all over the world. The governments and established cos are the last to react, not the first, and its mostly a kind of damage control...

CF has taken the first step- useful power generation and investment by capable people. Now the second step is a product... Till then common people, even brilliant scientists, govs, cos, etc etc no one is going to pay any attention, however loud you shout the name of CF.

Suddenly, the US Dep't of Energy heard the shouting and opened up funding opportunities for LENR projects.

Hello, Mr President

First, sincere congratulations on your recent appointment.
Second, if U of T already has LENR research underway, double congrats.
Without abusing mail etiquette, these messages are being relayed to seniour government leaders and to some chiefs in Canadian educational, industry and research institutions. (first email begins at the bottom). Any responses are appreciated, and will not be distributed.
All the best in 2014

Hello, Honourable Minister Goodyear and Mr.Myers
Sorry for the pyrmidal e-mail, but it seemed to fit the scope and urgency of the message.
Nonetheless, even with a quick scan, both of you will appreciate the need to further educate your member cohorts -and to address action plans.
Have a happy holiday and success throughout the New Year.

Dear Mr. Hamdullahpur
Kindly review the issues raised in emails to Queen's Park and your cohorts at Western University, and in my latest blog posts.

The newest version of Ontario's Long term Energy Plan commits to only what is deemed essential in the short term.
Unfortunately, there is no Santa. At this critical stage, leadership will have to come from indusry associations and from educational institutions.
With your background in education and research, you can see better than politicians (and this retired farmer) what actions are required.
Enjoy the holidays, and all success with your endeavours in the New Year.
Sincerely,
_jim sweeney

Dear Mr. Chakma and Mr. Capone
It looks like Energy Minister Bob Chiraelli and Premier Wynne see immenent breakthrough in electricity generation as they quench coal-fired plants, cancel plans for any new nuclear ones and stall refurbrishing of aged ones.
Undoubtedly you are monitoring the situation and are about to undertake educational and research initiatives related to the "new fire."
All the best in the New Year

Ladies and Gentlemen
There is litttle evidence that either Canada or its universites are pursuing development of Low Energy Nuclear Reactions. Perhaps your executive can push some buttons by relaying your comments along with the following link to the heads of appropriate organizations;

Dear Premier Wynne and Energy Minister Chiarelli

A copy of an email sent to a couple of journalists and mayors is forwarded to you on the premise that policy decisions should not be unduly influenced by lobbysts, their deep-pocketed clients and advertizing compromised media.
Please relay this appeal to MPPs participating on energy panels and others involved in important energy decisions.

Hello. Ms Wente
As you know the Canadian Nuclear Association and the Power Workers' Union are strongly lobbying to entrench nuclear power in the Province's Long-term Energy Plan. See full-page ad in your paper's Nov 19th edition.
At the same time, Bruce Power is advocating long-term underground storage of nuclear waste inland of its aged Kincardine reactors -while Japan and Germany are totally abandoning coal and nuclear power generation.
Have a look at the latest posts over at http://londont.blogspot.ca/ and enquire if there is any possibility Globe & Mail would permit its journalists to present an alernative path for Ontario's future energy.

Distributed Power vs Grid

Here is a November 2013 Atlantic magazine interview with the chief of a large American electricity conglomerate: This is a MUST READ for you and your friends.

President and CEO of NRG Energy, David Crane believes that within the next 20 years the national Grid and local distribution via wooden poles will become insignificant.
Businesses and home-owners will have the opporunity to be their own utility when the Beacon 10* (a Dean Kamen invention) hits the market in a year or two. By collaborating with Kamen, NRG hopes to be a survivor in the coming energy shake-out.

http://breakingenergy.com/2013/12/06/a-brave-new-world-powered-by-distributed-energy/
See Mr. Crane's viewpoint here. He doesn't see "wind" as a significant part of the future energy mix because of cost. Expensive and risky atomic plants do not get honourable mention. And, LENR is likely omitted because it has not yet been demonstrated commercially.

Elsewhere, Finland's large electricity consortium (Forum) has just announced divestiture of its electricity distribution business (18% of revenues). A press release says such action gives more straegic freedom through strengthening of its balance sheet, and opportunities may arise that only financially strong firms can seize. Vatenfall, is another Nordic energy company with a cut and run strategy in an already disruptive energy market. See Reuiters assessment here.

* NASA has just revealed that they are testing a smilar natural gas unit suitable for home generation of electricity,

Update Nov 24 2014
The NYTimes gives an overview of NRG's carbon reduction activitiess over the last 12 months. For Mr. Crane's customers and shareholders,(and NYtimes readers), 2030 and 2050 are a long way out; by 2050, stand-alone electricity and heating units will have made gas and petroleum pipelines, electricity transmission towers and nuclear plants obsoleite. Above ground and below ground grids will have disappeared by mid-century.

LENR Executive Summary -Inc'l Updates

With the gradual increase in media attention to the electric energy mix around the world, there is a growing need for education on LENR. A handy source is the web site: http://www.lenrnews.eu
In the USA there is increasing alarm over rising costs of electricity where an abundance of shale gas is refuleing old coal plants. Canada, meanwhile is having difficulty in shipping Alberta crude oil to its eastern refineries and to the gulf coast. With a surplus of shale gas and oil, North America isn't very interested in funding LENR R & D.
Another source providing a roundup of companies already involved in LENR research and development is http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/3092478/posts Locally, with ever-declining reliability of power supply and esculating electricity rates, Ontario manufacturers and jobs exit south. The latest casualtity is London's Kellogg plant. Indeed, south-west Ontario is in for a bumpy economic ride -until the arrivial of a more affordable and cleaner fuel. Energy minister Bob Chiarelli and Premier Wynne sense the solution is just over the ten-year horizon, yet do nothing to stimulate research and development of LENR.
In three months the 25th anniversary of the Fleishmann/Pons announcement arrives. Stay tuned for commercialization news between now and March 23, 2014.

Here is a revealing interview with Sweden's Sten Bergman, a co-author of the recent Elforsk Report.
